💡 Model answer
One of the greatest goals I've ever achieved was reaching band 7.5 in IELTS. Two years ago, my English was only intermediate, and I could barely speak for one minute without stopping. But I had a dream: to study abroad. So I decided to take action.
First, I set a specific goal: to get band 7.5 in twelve months. Then I broke it down into small steps. Every day I studied for two hours, learned ten new words, and practiced speaking with a friend. I also set a deadline, my exam date, so I always knew how much time was left.
Of course, it wasn't easy. After my first mock test I only got 6.0, and I felt discouraged. I almost gave up. But I reminded myself why I started, and I kept going.
Finally, on exam day I was nervous but well prepared. When I saw my result, 7.5, I was over the moon. It proved to me that hard work really pays off.
How important is setting goals in life? In my opinion, it's extremely important. Goals give us direction and motivation. Without them, people simply drift through life and waste their potential. A goal also helps us measure our progress and stay disciplined.
What should be important when setting a goal? Firstly, it should be specific: "be better at English" is too vague. Secondly, it should be realistic, otherwise you lose motivation. And thirdly, it needs a deadline, because a goal without a date is just a wish. As the saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
