One of the hardest decisions I've ever made was leaving a stable job to start my own project. I had worked at that company for almost three years. The salary was good, my colleagues were friendly, and everything was predictable. But deep down, I felt I was stuck in a comfort zone, and I wasn't learning anything new anymore.
What helped me decide? First, I weighed the pros and cons on paper. If I left, I would lose my monthly income and face a lot of uncertainty. But I could also gain freedom, new skills, and a chance to build something that was truly mine. Second, I asked myself a simple question: "Will I regret not trying?" The honest answer was yes. Third, I talked to people I trust, my family and two close friends. They gave me honest advice and helped me see the risks more realistically. But in the end, I followed my gut.
Looking back, it wasn't easy. The first six months were stressful, and I made plenty of mistakes. But I learned more in that time than in the previous three years, and I've never regretted my choice.
Now, why is it hard for some people to decide? I think there are three main reasons. First, fear. Many people are afraid of making the wrong choice, so they avoid choosing at all. Second, analysis paralysis: they have too many options and spend too much time overthinking, so they never take action. And third, peer pressure. Some people care more about others' opinions than their own goals, so they let other people decide for them. In my view, no choice is perfect, and a good decision made today is better than a perfect one made too late.
