A few months ago, my close friend Aziz told me he was very nervous about his IELTS speaking test. Aziz is a hard-working student, and he had been preparing for the exam for three months. He understood English well, but he froze every time he had to speak. I could see he was losing confidence, so I decided to help him.
I have always believed that good advice should be simple and practical. So I gave him a simple piece of advice: record yourself for five minutes every day. First, listen to your mistakes, and then try to fix them the next day. I also told him to stop worrying about perfect grammar and to focus on speaking clearly and naturally. I even shared my own experience: when I was learning English, I did the same thing, and it really worked for me.
My advice turned out to be really helpful. After a month, Aziz noticed that he was making fewer mistakes and speaking much more fluently. Recording himself helped him find his weak points, and daily practice built his confidence step by step. He also became less afraid of making mistakes, which is probably the biggest change.
As for his feelings, he was very grateful. He told me that he had been on the verge of giving up, but my advice gave him a clear plan. When he got his result, he thanked me again and again. Honestly, I felt proud too, because I was glad I could make a real difference in his life. It taught me that sometimes the best help is simple, honest advice from a friend.
