Chapter 1

Ninety Minutes of Magic

The night was warm. The sky was bright. Eighty thousand people were inside the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Two of them were best friends. Their names were Daniel and Marco.

Daniel was seventeen years old. He had short dark hair. He always wore a red and white Real Madrid scarf. He wore it in summer too. Marco was seventeen too. He was taller than Daniel. He had curly hair and a big, loud laugh. People could hear his laugh from far away.

“I can't believe we have tickets,” Marco said. He looked around the stadium. His eyes were big. The lights were very bright. The grass was green and perfect. The noise was very loud.

“My uncle works at the club,” Daniel said. He was happy and proud. “He gave the tickets to me last week. I was so surprised!”

Marco laughed his big laugh. People near them smiled.

The match was Real Madrid against FC Barcelona. This match is called El Clásico. It is the most famous football match in the world. Both teams ran fast. They played hard. The people in the stadium shouted after every shot. In minute 34, Real Madrid scored a goal. The stadium was full of noise. Daniel jumped on Marco's back. People who did not know each other hugged. An old man behind them cried. He was very happy.

In the second half, Barcelona scored too. Now the score was 1–1. Everyone was nervous. Every minute was very long. Then, in minute 89 — the last minute — a Real Madrid player kicked the ball. He kicked it very hard. The ball flew high. It went into the top of the goal.

The stadium was the loudest place on Earth.

Daniel and Marco shouted. They shouted so much that their throats hurt. They danced between the seats. The blew the final . Real Madrid 2, Barcelona 1.

After the match, the two boys walked out of the stadium slowly. They did not want to go home. The air still felt special. People were singing in the streets.

“This is the best night of my life,” Marco said quietly.

“Mine too,” said Daniel.

Strange atmosphere

Chapter 2

The Wrong Street

The metro station near the stadium was very full. There were too many people. People were pushing each other. Daniel and Marco did not want to go on the metro. They decided to walk home. They lived about forty minutes away. Their homes were in a quiet part of the city.

They took their normal way home. First, they walked along the big main road. Then they went through a small park. After that, they turned left into Calle Murillo. This street was small and . It had old buildings made of stone. The street lights were yellow.

But tonight, Calle Murillo was different.

It was very quiet. Too quiet. On a normal night, there were people walking their dogs. Old men sat outside the bars. Teenagers rode bicycles. But tonight, the street was empty. All the bar doors were closed. Most lights in the buildings were off.

“That's strange,” Daniel said. He walked more slowly.

“Maybe people are watching the match on TV again,” Marco said. But he did not sound sure.

They continued walking. Then Daniel stopped.

“Can you hear that?” he whispered.

Marco listened. Yes — there was a sound. It was a woman's voice. She was talking fast and quiet. She sounded scared.

The voice was coming from a dark, small street on the left. This small street had no lights. Daniel and Marco stood at the start of it. They looked inside.

What they saw was very bad.

High danger

Chapter 3

The Girl in the

Three men were around a young woman. She was about twenty years old. She had long dark hair and a grey jacket. One man was very big. He was almost two metres tall. He had no hair on his head. The second man was smaller. He had a on his chin. The third man stood behind the woman. He did not let her leave.

The big man was holding the woman's bag. He was pulling it. The woman was pulling it too. She did not want to give it to him.

“Give it to us,” the big man said. His voice was low and bad. “Now. Or we hurt you.”

“Help!” the woman shouted. “Someone, please help me!”

Daniel did not stop to think. He just acted.

“HEY!” he shouted. His voice was very loud. “POLICE! THE POLICE ARE HERE!”

The three men looked up. For one second, they were surprised.

One second was enough. Marco ran into the . He grabbed the big man's arm. The big man was stronger, but Marco was fast. He kicked the man hard on the knee. The big man dropped the bag. He shouted because of the pain.

Daniel ran in behind Marco. The man with the walked towards Daniel. Daniel saw a metal bin lid on the ground. He picked it up. He held it in front of him like a . “Stay back!” he shouted.

The third man was behind the woman. He looked left and right. He was nervous. He was young — maybe only nineteen. He looked .

“I said POLICE!” Daniel shouted again, louder. He took out his phone. He pretended to call someone.

The young third man turned and ran. He disappeared into the dark at the end of the .

The man with the looked at Marco. Then he looked at Daniel. Then he looked at the big man. The big man was still holding his knee. The man with the made a choice. He pulled the big man's arm.

“Come on. Now,” he said.

The two men ran. Their feet made a loud sound in the empty . Then there was no sound.

The woman did not move. She was breathing fast. Her bag was on the ground by her feet.

Daniel and Marco looked at each other. Their hearts were beating fast. Their hands were shaking.

“Are you OK?” Marco asked the woman.

She looked at them. Her face was strange. She did not look very . She did not look happy or thankful. She looked… different. Daniel did not understand it.

“I'm fine,” she said. Her voice was very calm. “Thank you.”

Things don't add up

Chapter 4

Something Is Wrong

The woman picked up her bag. She looked inside it fast. Then she looked at the boys again.

“You should go home,” she said. “Both of you. Now.”

This was strange. Daniel expected her to say thank you more times. He expected her to be upset, or to call the police. But she was not doing those things. She was looking at the street. She was looking for someone.

“Do you want us to wait with you?” Daniel asked. “We can call the police.”

“No,” she said fast. Too fast. “No police. I'm fine. Just go.”

Marco was confused. He said quietly to Daniel, “Why doesn't she want the police?”

Daniel whispered back, “I don't know. That's strange.”

The woman heard them. Her eyes became hard.

“I said go,” she said again. But now her voice was different. It was not the voice of a scared person. It was the voice of a boss.

Daniel looked at the woman more carefully. Her grey jacket was expensive. It was real . It had small gold buttons. Her shoes were new and clean. She had a small gold watch on her arm.

And then he saw something on the ground. A small thing near her foot. It was from her bag. It was black. It looked like a phone, but it was not a phone. It had no screen. It only had one red button on the side.

Daniel looked at it for one second too long.

The woman saw him. She moved her foot and covered the thing. Then she looked at Daniel. Her eyes were cold like ice.

“Pick it up for me,” she said quietly.

He picked it up. He gave it to her. Their fingers touched for one second. The thing was heavier than he thought.

“Thank you,” she said. She put it inside her jacket, not in her bag. Then she turned. She walked out of the , but not to the main street. She walked the other way — into the dark part of the city.

Daniel and Marco watched her. She walked with . She did not run. She did not look back. The sound of her shoes became quiet. Then there was no sound.

Now they were alone in the .

“What happened?” Marco said.

“I don't know,” Daniel said. “But something is not right.”

Real danger begins

Chapter 5

The Return

They started to walk back to the main street. Daniel was still thinking about the woman. Her calm eyes. The strange black thing. The expensive clothes. Nothing made sense.

Then Marco grabbed his arm.

“Daniel. Stop.”

Daniel stopped. He looked up.

The three men were back. They were standing at the start of the . They were blocking the way out. The big man was not holding his knee now. The man with the was holding something in his right hand. It was dark. It looked like a short metal bar.

The young third man was back too. He was not now. He was looking at Daniel and Marco with cold eyes. He did not look like a nervous boy anymore.

“You made a big mistake tonight,” the big man said. He was talking to Daniel. His voice was quiet and flat. “You picked up something that is not yours.”

“We gave it back,” Marco said. He tried to sound strong, but his voice was shaking a little.

“Not the thing,” the man said. “Information. You saw things you should not see. You were in a place you should not be.”

Daniel felt cold. The cold feeling started in his stomach. It went up to his throat. But he made himself think. He looked around the . There was only one way out — the main way, and the men were there. At the back, there was a wall. The wall was too high to climb.

He looked at Marco. Marco nodded a very small nod. He understood too.

“My phone is on,” Daniel said loudly. “And it is recording now. All your words. All your actions. If something happens to us, the file goes to the police server. It is automatic.” This was not true, but he said it calmly. He said it like it was normal.

The three men looked at each other. A short moment of doubt.

That moment was enough.

A black car came from nowhere. It moved very fast. It stopped at the start of the . The car lights shone on the three men, like big lights in a theatre. The car doors opened. Four people in dark clothes got out. They were fast and quiet.

The three men ran in different directions. They disappeared into the dark streets. The four new people did not run after them.

Then one of the new people walked to Daniel and Marco. It was the woman.

She still had the grey jacket. But now it was open. Under it, Daniel could see a dark vest. The vest had a small logo on the front. She had a small radio in her hand.

“You should not be here,” she said.

“You came back,” Marco said. He was confused.

“Of course,” she said. She said it like it was normal. Like she was always watching them.

The big twist

Chapter 6

Not a Victim

“Who are you?” Daniel asked. He looked at the logo on her vest. It was small and dark. It was two letters inside a circle. He could not read it in the dark street.

The woman looked at him. She was deciding something.

“My name is Sofia,” she said. “And those men were not robbing me.”

Daniel looked at her. Marco opened his mouth, then closed it again.

“They wanted to take back something that I took from them,” Sofia said. Her voice was calm and clear. “Three weeks ago, I went inside their group. Secretly. Do you know that word? Undercover?”

“Like a spy?” Marco said.

“Like that. I work for a special police unit. Our job is to go inside criminal groups. We collect information. Then we arrest the important people at the top.” She stopped for a moment. “Tonight, they discovered who I really am. I had to leave fast. I needed to make it look normal. A street robbery is normal. It doesn't bring the wrong kind of attention.”

“Wait,” Daniel said slowly. He was putting the pieces together in his head. “The robbery was not real? You planned it?”

“Not planned. I thought of it very fast.” For the first time, she smiled a little. “And then two boys from a football match came. They made everything more difficult.”

Marco laughed. It was his big, loud laugh. It sounded very strange in the quiet . Even Sofia was surprised.

“Sorry,” Marco said. “Sorry. It's just — we thought we were heroes.”

“You were brave,” Sofia said. She was not joking. “Stupid, yes. Very stupid. But also brave.”

“The small black thing,” Daniel said. “What was it?”

Sofia looked at him carefully. “You notice things,” she said. It was not good or bad. It was just true.

“It was a data drive,” she said. “Three years of information. Names, dates, money records. We need it to arrest forty-one people. One of them is the man we call the Director.”

“The Director?” Marco said. The name sounded like a name from a film.

“The boss of everything,” Sofia said. Her voice was very serious now. “He controls drugs in six countries. He has friends who are politicians. He has friends who are judges. He has been doing this for fifteen years. No police can catch him.” She looked at the small thing in her jacket. “Until now. Maybe.”

Silence.

“And the three men,” Daniel said. “They work for him?”

“They are not the bosses, but they are important,” Sofia said. “When my cover broke tonight, they got orders to take back the drive. If they had the drive…” She did not finish. She did not need to finish.

Deeper mystery

Chapter 7

The Empty Street

Daniel thought about Calle Murillo. The empty street. The closed bars. No people anywhere.

“The street was empty tonight,” he said. “Calle Murillo. It is never empty like that.”

Sofia looked at him again with those sharp eyes.

“You saw that too,” she said.

“Why was it empty?”

Sofia was quiet for a moment. Then she answered. “Before I left the Director's building, I sent a signal to my team. It is a rule. The signal tells them where I am. It tells them I need help. They cleared the area. They told the bar owners to close early. They said there was a problem with the water pipes.”

“So your people were watching all the time,” Marco said.

“They were moving into position,” Sofia said. “It takes time. We did not expect you two.” She looked at both of them. “You scared those men away for a few minutes. That was important. I don't know what they were going to do to me. They were not going to let me just walk home.”

Daniel felt the weight of her words. He looked at Marco. Marco's face was serious now. No big laugh. No big eyes. Just quiet understanding.

“Are we in danger now?” Daniel asked directly. “Because we were here. Because we saw things.”

Sofia thought about the question. She did not say "no" too fast. Daniel liked that.

“The three men saw your faces,” she said. “But they don't know your names or where you live. And by tomorrow morning, forty-one people will be in prison. The network will be finished. Nobody will give orders.” She stopped. “But you must go straight home. Tonight. Do not stop. Do not talk about this to anyone. Not tomorrow. Not this week.”

“For how long?” Marco asked.

“Two weeks,” Sofia said. “After two weeks, it will not be a problem.”

Final scene

Chapter 8

The Long Walk Home

One person from Sofia's team drove Daniel and Marco in the black car. They went near their homes. Nobody spoke in the car. Outside, the city passed by — lights, people, normal life. Everything looked the same. But the boys did not feel the same.

The car stopped at the corner of their street. Sofia was in the front seat. She turned around and looked at the two boys one last time.

“One more thing,” she said. “The recording you talked about. The automatic one to the police.” Her eyes were calm. “That was not true.”

It was not a question.

Daniel did not say anything.

“It was a good idea,” Sofia said. She said it simply. “Goodnight.”

The boys got out of the car. The car drove away fast. In five seconds, it was gone.

Daniel and Marco stood on the street. The street was quiet and normal. A cat walked across the road. Somewhere, a TV was on inside a flat. The night air smelled like petrol and bread.

“So,” Marco said.

“So,” said Daniel.

They started walking home.

“Real Madrid won,” Marco said.

“Yes,” said Daniel.

“We stopped bad men. And we helped a secret police agent.”

“Yes,” said Daniel.

“Also yes.”

They walked quietly for one minute. Then Marco said, “My mum is going to ask me why I am home so late.”

“Tell her the metro was full,” Daniel said.

“Right.” Marco nodded. “The metro was full.”

They came to the place where their streets were different. They stopped. They looked at each other.

There were no words big enough. So they did not say anything. Marco put two fingers to his head — a small salute — and turned left. Daniel turned right.

Daniel walked the last three hundred metres alone. He looked at the sky. It was dark and clear. He could see a few stars above the city lights.

He thought about the match. The goal in minute 89. The noise of eighty thousand people. He thought about the empty street. The . Sofia's cold eyes. The small black thing, heavy in his hand for one second. The car disappearing around the corner.

He put his key in the door. The light in the kitchen was on. He could smell his mother's food.

He went inside. He closed the door. He closed his eyes for a moment. He leaned on the door.

Then he went to the kitchen. He said, “Hi, Mum. The match was amazing.”

And that was all.

Now, think about you. If you saw a stranger in danger on a dark street, what would you do? Would you stop to help? Or would you walk away? Would you act fast like Marco? Or think first like Daniel? And if you found out that nothing was real — that everything was different from what you thought — how would you feel? Sometimes, a normal night can change everything. Are you ready for your night?
